Born in Brooklyn, New York and raised on Long Island, Dr. Gary DiCanio is a typical “baby boomer.” Dr. DiCanio developed an interest in biology and medical science while attending General Douglas McArthur High School in Levittown, NY. After receiving his bachelor’s degree in biology from the State University of NY, Arts and Science at Geneseo, Dr. DiCanio enrolled in the physician assistant program at Long Island University, Brooklyn, NY and worked as a physician assistant at the Health Clinic at Riker’s Island Correctional Institution, Woodhull Hospital and Brookhaven Memorial Hospital. This experience further solidified his passion for practicing medicine and he applied and was accepted in 1989 to medical school at New York College of Osteopathic Medicine, Old Westbury, NY. Dr. DiCanio completed his post medical school training at Peninsula Hospital, Queens, New York, concentrating in family medicine. He then completed training in OBGYN at Catholic Medical Center in Queens, NY. Dr. DiCanio is board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Practice. Today, his focus is exclusively on family medicine with an emphasis on women’s health. He also specializes in the evaluation and treatment of no-fault and workers’ compensation cases. Dr.DiCanio is dedicated to excellence with an emphasis on the holistic approach to patient care. Dr. DiCanio has privileges at South Side Hospital, Bay Shore, NY and Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center, Bay Shore, NY.
